Rundle praises statewide pay increase for state attorneys, PDs

“Our Governor agreed with the legislative leadership by recognizing the critical role that prosecutor’s offices fulfill in this state and how our work is to maintain public safety,” State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a newsletter to constituents.
The $117.6 billion state budget that took effect July 1 did not include pay raises for most state employees but included a $10,000 across-the-board pay increase for prosecutors and a $3,500 increase for assistant public defenders. During budget negotiations earlier this year, some public defenders warned the gap could exacerbate high turnover.
In the newsletter, Rundle notes that every assistant state attorney in her office will receive a $10,000 “SPI,” or special pay increase, and an additional $5,000 “CAD,” or cost area differential increase, to make up for South Florida’s higher living expenses.
Support staff will receive a $2,000 increase, “as a result of our office’s effective cost-saving efforts,” plus a $1,244 CAD increase.
Investigators will receive a 4% cost of living adjustment and an additional $5,000 CAD increase, the newsletter notes.
Rundle also praised outgoing House Speaker Daniel Perez, a Miami attorney who is about to pass the gavel to Rep. Sam Garrison, a Fleming Island attorney and former prosecutor.

Rundle also thanks Miami Sen. Ileana Garcia for the salary increases and supporting the office’s anti-human trafficking efforts, and Miami Rep. Demi Busatta, for supporting the raises and a “Child Support Program” in Rundle’s office.
